NM Dept. of Health sees uptick in bed bug infestations | New Mexico News – KOAT Home

Were getting about two to three calls a week from people dealing with an infestation, Dr. Paul Smith said. Thats a lot considering we didnt hardly hear of bed bugs some years ago. Smith said the cases are almost always found at apartment complexes in the city. He says problems surface when apartment managers and tenants fail to exterminate the pests in a timely fashion, causing them to spread from unit to unit. If you have someone who is living close to you that is not notifying that they have a bed bug infestation or it’s not getting treated by property management, then yes you might be experiencing an infestation that you had no control over,” Smith said. Smith added that beg bugs are not exclusive, and can hit any socioeconomic dwelling. An early sign that you have bed bugs is unexplained bites on your body.
